Day 7 (21.03.2006)
In the morning we drove to the airport. At about 12 o'clock, after 1 hour and 45 minutes, our airplane (Boeing 737) landed in Shanghai. First we drove to the Old Town which is really nice. Many houses there are built in a typical Chinese style with curved roofs. Here we ate lunch. After lunch we took a walk through the Old Town with its small alleys and it was very nice. In the Old Town we visited the Yuyuan Garden which was built by the official Pan En in the 16th century. This garden is very nice. In this garden there are ponds, trees and bizarre rocks (elements of a typical Chinese garden). There are also a 400-year-old Ginkgo and a 100-year-old Magnolia in this garden.

We left the Yuyuan Garden and we went into a tea house which is also built in a traditional Chinese style. We took part in a tea ceremony and we could taste different sorts of tea. After that we drove to the bank promenade and on the other side of the Huangpu River we saw Pudong (district in Shanghai) with its skyscrapers. The 468 m high TV Tower, the Oriental Pearl Tower, in Pudong is very remarkable. Afterwards we drove to the Jade Buddha Temple which contains two Jade Buddhas which were brought from Burma in 1881 by a monk. After that the day program ended and we drove to the hotel. I walked a little bit near our hotel, but it was late and so I went to the hotel restaurant for supper and there I met a couple from our tourist group.
