Day 6 (12.02.2007)
In the morning of this day I went to the university again. Afterwards I went to the Summer Palace (Yiheyuan). In March 2006 we visited the Summer Palace with our tour group, but it was to short and this time I wanted to take my time. I entered the Summer Palace through the East Gate and I went to the Garden of Virtue and Harmony. In this garden there is a theater which was built by the Empress Dowager Cixi. Then I went to the Longevity Hill in the north of the Summer Palace. There are everywhere pavilions and buildings which fit in the scenery. From the hill one has got a view over other hills and some streets. Later I went to the Buddha Fragrance Pavilion, which is 41 m high. I went to the pavilion from the north and because I stood a little bit higher I had a great view of the pavilion. From the pavilion one has got a great view over the whole Summer Palace with the Kunming Lake. After that I went down the hill over some stairs. I followed the Long Corridor westward and then I went north to the Suzhou Street. Suzhou is a Chinese city not far from Shanghai and it is famous for its gardens and canals. Later I went to the Marble Boat and then I left the Summer Palace through the West Gate. The whole Summer Palace is huge and beautiful.
