Day 20 (26.02.2007)
Today I wanted to go to the Great Wall. One year ago I visited the Great Wall at Juyongguan and so this time I wanted to go to Badaling. I took a bus from Deshengmen to Badaling. Badaling is located about 70 km north of Beijing and it took about 1.5 hours to go there. In the Qin Dynasty (221 BC - 206 BC) the Chinese began to build a wall to repel attacks from the north. The wall which exists today was built in the 15th century (Ming Dynasty). At that time the Great Wall was about 9000 km long and today it is about 6000 km long. Today it was very foggy and it rained sometimes and so there were only few tourists in Badaling. In the high season there are many tourists in Badaling. Because of the fog I could not see very far. There was even a part of the Great Wall where I walked alone for 40 minutes without seeing anybody. After reaching the end of this part I went back and my next aim was to reach the highest place of the Great Wall in Badaling. I had to go high upstairs. After reaching the highest place I chose another way to go down. This way was new to me and because of the fog I did not see the bus stop and so some Chinese helped me to find my way. Afterwards I went back to Beijing and I wanted to eat something good. Because of the fog I could not take good photos. I took beautiful photos of the Great Wall on Day 44 in Mutianyu and on
Day 85 in Jinshanling and Simatai.
