Day 1 (08.05.2007)
Around noon I got on a plane in Beijing and I flew to Urumqi. The flight took about 4 hours. The distance between Beijing and Urumqi is over 2400 km. Urumqi is the capital of the autonomous region Xinjiang Uyghur and a modern city. Already at the airport I discovered that the inscriptions are not only in Chinese, but also in Uyghur and today Uyghur is written with the Arabic script. A Chinese friend of mine was so kind to pick me up from the airport and take me to a hotel. Later he invited me into a restaurant where the food was delicious, so I am very grateful to him.
