Day 5 (12.05.2007)
Today I started to visit Kashgar. One immediately sees that the Islamic art and culture are dominating. Kashgar is becoming more and more modern, but it is still quite exotic. First I went to the Old Town. I wanted to visit the Id Kah Mosque, but it is only possible when there is no prayer. So I first visited the Old Town and later I came back to visit the Id Kah Mosque. It was built in 1442. In the Old Town it was possible to sit on a camel and to take some photos. There was an adult camel and a baby camel and the baby camel was very cute. It is very exotic to walk through the narrow streets of the Old Town. The houses of the people are very poor and some of them are even made of loam. Afterwards I went to a museum where somebody explained me the Uyghur, Kyrgyz and Tajik art and culture. There are even a few traditional Uyghur and Tajik rooms. Then I went for lunch and it worked out. Because it can happen that one meets Uyghurs who neither speak Chinese nor English and then I can be a problem. After lunch I went to the People's Square. There is a tall statue of Mao Zedong. Finally I walked through the People's Park and then I went back to the hotel.
