Day 10 (17.05.2007)
Actually after Tashkurgan we should go back to Kashgar, but I changed the route and we went south on the Karakorum Highway, our aim was the border with Pakistan. The scenery on the way is always breathtaking. Finally we arrived at the Khunjerab Pass, the border with Pakistan and the highest border crossing in the world. The data I read and heard about the Khunjerab Pass says that it is between 4600 m and 5300 m high. This is the highest place where I stood until now. The Khunjerab Pass is only opened half of the year, because in winter there is too much snow and one cannot cross the Khunjerab Pass. When I was there there was some snow, too. Two steles mark the border between China and Pakistan. Afterwards we went back, we ate in Tashkurgan and in the evening we came back to Kashgar.
