Day 2 (12.11.2007)

Today in the morning I went to visit the Jokhang. The Jokhang was built in the 7th century by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. In the Jokhang there is the Statue of the Jobo Shakyamuni. The Jokhang and the Jobo Shakyamuni belong to the most important sanctuaries in Tibet. Again I saw many Tibetans who prayed and went around the Jokhang. For the first time I entered a temple in Tibet and it was very interesting. In the buildings of the Jokhang there are many Buddhist art treasures. Finally I came to the Jobo Shakyamuni, which is decorated very rich. In the courtyards of the Jokhang it was allowed to take photos, but inside the buildings it was forbidden. Later I went to the roof of the Jokhang. Here one can see the beautiful golden roofs of the Jokhang and the "Wheel of Dharma". Furthermore one has got a great view of Lhasa, of the surrounding mountains and especially of the Potala Palace. After I admired the view I left the Jokhang and I walked west. I passed by the Potala Palace and finally I went to the Norbulingka. Today the Norbulingka was already closed and I went back to my hotel. I took sunglasses with me to Tibet, but it was not enough and so I also bought a hat. The solar radiation is very strong on this altitude. Near my hotel there was a good restaurant where I always ate.
