Day 7 (17.11.2007)
Today we drove from Gyantse to Shigatse. Shigatse is the second largest city in Tibet and it is located on an elevation of about 3900 m. First I walked from the hotel to the Dzong of Shigatse and afterwards to the Buddhist monastery Tashilhunpo. Tashilhunpo was founded in 1447 and besides Ganden, Drepung and Sera it is an important monastery of the Gelugpa school. It is the residence of the Panchen Lamas. In the Tashilhunpo there is also a 26 m high Buddha Statue. From the top of the Tashilhunpo I had a view over Shigatse.
