My Tibet Tour (November 2007)
After my Chinese study in Beijing I flew to the Tibet Autonomous Region. The Tibet Autonomous Region is located in West China, south of Xinjiang, and has got an area of about 1.23 million km2. The majority of the population are Tibetans. They are mainly Buddhists. The Han Chinese are the second largest population group. The whole area of Tibet is highland and it is the highest and largest (by area) highland in the world. And so Tibet is often called "Roof of the World". In the Himalaya mountains, on the border between Tibet and Nepal, there is the Mount Everest (8848 m), the highest mountain in the world. I wanted to travel to Tibet, because one can find an interesting Buddhist culture here. The Buddhist monasteries with many monks are very authentically preserved. Furthermore it is a unique experience to travel to the Himalayas - the highest mountains in the world.
