Lockheed F-104 Starfighter

The F-104 Starfigther is a light figther with one seat which was built from Lockheed after the Korea war. The first flight of the F-104 was in 1954. It was the first Mach-2-fighter of the world. The F-104 Starfighter was not optimum in every sector, because the main thign was the high speed. Obstinacy the high speed he has not got much success in the USA. In other NATO countries he has got more success. From Germany pilots were sent into the USA to be educated. It was the "Cactus Echelon". But the F-104 had many accidents and some pilots of the "Cactus Echelon" lost their life, but also American pilots. Because of this reason one of the nicknames of the F-104 was "Widow Maker". 1990 the last F-104 flew in Germany. In other countries the F-104 flies until today. The F-104 was in the Vietnam war.
