Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 "Flogger"

Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 Flogger

The MiG-23 was build in the beginning of the 60th. It should be the successor of the MiG-21 "Fishbed". The range was strengthen, because the MiG-21 cannot fly very far. With 2.35 Mach the speed of the MiG-23 is also higher than the speed of the MiG-21. The speed of the MiG-21 is about 2 Mach. The MiG-23 has got also one seat. The speciality are the tiltable wings which also the F-14 Tomcat has. Those wings are adjustable when the speed changes. At lower speeds the wings stay folded up and with higher speeds they are automatical folded back. The MiG-23 was successful in the Afghanistan war, but later when the F-14 Tomcat came the MiG-23 was not so good any longer. The NATO Code for the MiG-23 is "Flogger".
