The Bombardier Regional Jet (CRJ-100) was developed since 1989. He is made for lang regional distances or for weak routes, so he is made for all flights were a bigger airplane is not profitable. The Regional Jet is made for 50 passengers. The first flight of this airplane was in 1991. Since 1992 it carries passengers. The advantage to propeller-driven aircraft is the higher speed. The pattern for the Regional Jet was the Bombardier Challenger, a business jet. The Regional Jet is longer than the Bombardier Challenger. At the beginning the Regional Jet and the Challenger were produced by the company Canadair. Bombardier took over Canadair. Both are Canadian companies. The abbreviation CRJ stands for "Canadair Regional Jet".
